What is this?

The Advisory Support Mechanism

Through expert-driven support, Startup Villages are empowered to become true lighthouses of rural bioeconomy transformation across Europe.

The FoodCoP Advisory Support Mechanism provides structured, tailored guidance to Startup Villages across Europe. Its mission is to strengthen rural innovation ecosystems and embed circular systemic bioeconomy principles into local food systems and governance models.

Advisory support is delivered to stakeholders from Startup Villages, including ecosystem representatives and selected SME/Startup Ambassadors.

Tailored Support for Startup & SME Ambassadors

When advisory support is provided directly to nominated companies, the focus shifts toward business-level advancement while maintaining alignment with circular bioeconomy objectives.

Company-focused advisory includes:

  • Business model development and innovation
  • Integration into international value chains
  • International market visibility and promotion
  • Cross-border scaling and expansion

This dual approach ensures both ecosystem strengthening and company-level growth within Europe’s circular bioeconomy landscape.

Step by step

How the Advisory Process Works

The advisory mechanism follows a structured four-step methodology:

1

Identify the Strategic Challenge

A key ecosystem or company-level challenge is defined, typically through a 1:1 mentoring session.

2

Match with the Right Expert

The challenge is aligned with a suitable specialist from the FoodCoP Advisory Pool.

3

Deliver Targeted Advisory

A focused expert session refines governance models, transformation pathways and strategies.

4

Document the Outcomes

Each intervention results in a structured Advisory Note.

Problem definition
Core challenge framing
Context analysis
Ecosystem situational scan
Recommended actions
Expert-validated roadmap
Clear next steps
Concrete, measurable outcomes

Wider impact

Beyond Advice: Learning & Knowledge Transfer

The Advisory Support Mechanism is more than individual mentoring — it is a structured learning instrument for the wider ecosystem. Insights generated through advisory sessions contribute to:

Strengthening the Community of Practice
Refining Circular Bioeconomy Models
Informing Policy Recommendations
Supporting Replication Across Villages
Enhancing Ambassador Best Practices

The approach follows a SWOT-informed logic — leveraging strengths, addressing weaknesses, unlocking opportunities, and mitigating risks at ecosystem level.
